Tyrrell timber: a history of the Branning Manufacturing Company and Richmond Cedar Works
'Tyrrell Timber: A History of the Branning Manufacturing Company and Richmond Cedar Works' is a chronicle of the extensive timbering operations in Tyrrell County, North Carolina. A boom in the timber business swept across northeastern North Carolina from the 1880s through the early 1920s, bringing speculators and sawmills to harvest Tyrrell's immense timber resources. Two companies, Branning Manufacturing, once the largest timber enterprises in North Carolina, and Richmond Cedar Works, regarded as the largest manufacturer of woodenware in the world, had operations in Tyrrell County. The extensive network of sawmills and logging operations in these companies connected the remote wilderness of Tyrrell County to Edenton and Ahoskie, North Carolina, and to Richmond and the Tidewater area of Virginia.
